Every year, on March 22nd, the United Nations observes World Water Day; a day to celebrate water and raise awareness of the 2.2 billion people living without access to safe water. This year’s theme is “valuing water”, focusing on the promotion of water’s multidimensional value. This theme explores how and why water is valued by different people in order to more efficiently manage and conserve this crucial resource for the future. The 2021 #Water2Me campaign encourages people to share their stories, thoughts and experiences on water and its value to them. See what people are saying around the world here.

The need for proactive, long-term solutions is more important than ever. We encourage you to take this day each year to reflect on the importance of clean water and sustainability in your daily life, whether you practice responsible water use, participate in water savings projects, and/or check out the World Water Day website for resources, videos and stories to learn more. This World Water Day, join us and other WRC members at the UN Global Compact Academy session to learn from corporate leaders about the value of water to businesses and how sustainable water use can build toward long-term resilience.
