The town of Dell, Arkansas had previously been purchasing water from a neighboring town. The decision was made to drill a new well for the town’s own water treatment plant, utilizing an existing storage building. The town worked together with Tonka Water, a U.S. Water Brand (Tonka Water) to design a new 350 gpm water treatment facility. Tonka Water’s Dualator® III package treatment unit; which incorporates aeration, detention, and filtration in a single unit was selected. The Dualator III was chosen due to its easy filter access. Ease of operation was also a factor, as the entire system will not need to be taken offline for maintenance, as is required with pressure filtration systems.
Tonka Water’s Dualator III incorporates multiple processes into a single low-profile unit. The treatment process begins as the raw water enters the aeration section of the Dualator III, where air is introduced to promote iron oxidation. The oxidation is completed while the water flows through the baffled 30-minute detention compartment. Water from the detention section is uniformly collected and transferred by gravity to the filter compartment where it is uniformly distributed into each filter cell. The water then filters through a dual media consisting of Manganese Greensand Plus™ and anthracite where the iron precipitates are removed, and manganese contact oxidizes and effluent water flows into the clearwell.
Since startup in 2017, the Dell treatment plant has been meeting water treatment expectations and delivering quality water to town residents.
